Football fans react to Owen and Shearer’s bizarre Twitter spat

Former Newcastle strikers Michael Owen and Alan Shearer have found themselves caught up in a bizarre Twitter spat.

This comes ahead of the release of Owen’s new book, in which he reveals that he did not want to complete a big-money move back to the Premier League from Real Madrid.

Shearer, a well-known, passionate Newcastle supporter, hit back on social media.

Owen had his own bit to say, revealing that the former Magpies forward nearly completed a move to Liverpool.

The whole fiasco has left a number of fans on social media confused as they take in the drama.

Owen has never really been a popular figure with Newcastle fans and after his latest revelations about his time at the club, it’s easy to see why.

Add to that, his decision to try and take on club hero Alan Shearer was never going to end well with the locals.

The whole charade made for some entertaining viewing among football fans in general, not only those affiliated to Newcastle United.
