# These Newcastle fans react to Willems’ “dive” against Leicester

Newcastle lost to Leicester City on penalties on Wednesday night as they were knocked out of the League Cup.

James Maddison gave Leicester the lead in the first-half, only for Muto to level the scores in the second-half and take the game to penalties.

However, Newcastle left-back Jetro Willems theatrically threw himself to the floor as he squared the ball for Muto to tap home.

These Newcastle fans reacted to his “dive”…

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Willems will argue that he was pushed in the back by the Leicester defender, but the way in which he went down was shocking.

It’s great to look back at and laugh, but the referee could easily have ruled out Muto’s goal and brought the play back for a dive – as that was what it clearly was.

The defender will have to quickly learn that he cannot do that again, especially with VAR now being in the Premier League. The system was not in place for the League Cup clash, but it is potentially something that would have been picked up on had VAR been in use.
