# Newcastle 1-1 Leicester: Four things learned

Newcastle United lost on penalties to Leicester on Wednesday in the second round of the League Cup.

James Maddison gave the Foxes the lead in the first-half, as his free-kick from distance deflected off the wall and wrong footed Karl Darlow in the Newcastle goal.

Steve Bruce’s depleted side battled hard, though, and found the equaliser in the second-half. Jetro Willems got to the byline and cut the ball back for Muto to tap in from close range and level the scores.

Emil Krafth, Matt Ritchie and Willems were all, however, withdrawn with injuries, which will surely be a concern for Bruce heading into a Premier League clash with Watford at the weekend.

Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden missed from the spot as Newcastle lost 4-2 on penalties to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

But what did we learn from the game? Here are four things we have picked out after the match…
