Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that a number of players are doubts for the League Cup clash with Leicester on Monday.

Speaking to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Bruce revealed that Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu could all miss the game.

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Whilst there is no way to know whether or not Bruce is making excuses or the players are actually injured, Newcastle should prioritise the Premier League over the League Cup.

Newcastle will be in a relegation scrap this season and the League Cup could become an unwanted distraction if they go far in the competition. Bruce may want to field a weakened team against Leicester and risk going out, rather than potentially losing more of his first-team players to injury in the cup and it leading to poor league form.
