Bruce offers Saint-Maximin update – Atsu is ready to shine

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Allan Saint-Maximin suffered a hamstring injury during the win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The winger, who was making his full debut for the club, came off injured in the first-half after pulling up chasing a ball to the byline.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Bruce said this:

Saint-Maximin is a recurrence of a hamstring, and that’s a nightmare for us, unfortunately.

Is this injury to Saint-Maximin a massive concern for Newcastle?

If the match against Spurs is anything to go by, then no. Christian Atsu replaced him on Sunday and provided the assist for Joelinton’s winner. Atsu clipped a delightful ball into the forward’s path, leaving him one on one with Hugo Lloris.

Atsu was bright and inventive throughout and worked hard for the team in midfield, proving that he has what it takes to start games in the Premier League for Newcastle this season.

Whilst Saint-Maximin is an exciting arrival, after joining from OCG Nice this summer, Atsu is more than capable of performing in his absence for Steve Bruce’s side.
