# These Newcastle fans heap praise on Lascelles after Spurs win

Newcastle picked up their first points of the 2019/20 Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Summer signing Joelinton scored the only goal of the game, sealing the three points with a fine finish in the first-half.

Jamaal Lascelles took to Twitter after the game to praise the team’s performance.

> Twitter: Off the mark with a clean sheet! Class team performance & your support kept us battling until the final whistle. Up… https://t.co/A4wlnqlfEc (@Lascelles16)

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Although Lascelles was, perhaps, unlucky not to have been penalised for taking down Harry Kane in the box, he enjoyed a strong performance against the Champions League finalists.

The centre-back was given a 7.78/10 rating by [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/105171/Show/Jamaal-Lascelles)for his display, the highest of any player on the pitch – making him their Man of the Match.

Lascelles has averaged an impressive 5.7 clearances per game in the Premier League this season, whilst also making three tackles and eight interceptions – an impressive return for the former Nottingham Forest man.
