# These Newcastle fans react to Bruce justifying Norwich performance

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has defended his side’s performance against Norwich by claiming that other teams in the league failed to perform.

The Toon lost 3-1 to newly-promoted Norwich, with Finnish international Teemu Pukki scoring a hat-trick for the Canaries.

Weird?

Is it the best Bruce can muster?

### READ NEWCASTLE VERDICT

Given the mood around Newcastle at the moment, Bruce’s comments appear to just be further stoking the fire amongst the supporters.

Although he has a right to defend himself and his team, at the same time he needs to be realistic about expectations – with a 3-1 defeat to a newly promoted team in the second game of the season not being good enough.

Bruce may well be right, but his comments were only ever going to annoy Newcastle fans – so why say it? Maybe he needs to consider how what he says in press conferences will affect supporters.
