‘A little overrated?’ – these Newcastle fans are growing frustrated with Almiron

Miguel Almiron is still awaiting his first goal in a Newcastle shirt.

The dynamic attacking midfielder made the move to St James’ Park back from MLS side Atlanta United in January in a then club-record deal worth £21 million.

However, the 25-year-old has struggled to produce a series of consistent performances during his stay on Tyneside.

And these Newcastle fans took to social media to share their growing frustration with the Paraguay international.

Although Almiron’s performances in a Newcastle shirt have been extremely frustrating, criticism at this point is pretty unfair.

He’ll have plenty of expectation on his shoulders for the majority of the campaign to create numerous chances and score plenty of goals, so fans getting on his back is the last thing he needs.

Almiron appears to be a player who thrives on confidence. He’s still gelling with his new attacking teammates, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton, and is also continuing to adjust to Premier League life.

The creative midfielder looks set to play a key role in Steve Bruce’s side, and if he can string together a few standout performances in the coming weeks, that could prove to be the catalyst for a successful 2019/20 season.
