Steve Bruce’s first match as Newcastle United manager ended in defeat as a second half goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who cashed in on a cross from Ainsley Maitland-Niles, separated Arsenal and the Magpies.
Newcastle put in a spirited display in the first half with Jonjo Shelvey forcing a save from Bernd Leno through his strong shot. However, some sloppy defending resulted in Aubameyang scoring past Martin Dubravka to seal three points for the Gunners.
After conceding, Newcastle did not seem to be much of a threat going forward and this is something they’ll have to work on as the season progresses.
The Magpies have a very good chance of winning their next game as they take on Norwich City at Carrow Road. Daniel Farke’s side were trounced by Liverpool in the Premier League opener on Friday.
Now, we will see how the Newcastle players fared in today’s match at St. James’ Park.
