Newcastle are reportedly in talks over a deal to re-sign Andy Carroll following his departure from West Ham.
Lee Ryder reports that the club’s medical staff are carrying out checks on the player’s fitness, which is likely to be the deciding factor in any potential move.
The player himself is said to be eager to complete a deal, but should Newcastle feel the same way?

It would be very risky for supporters and the club to look at this deal with an element of nostalgia.
Carroll played his best football at Newcastle and there will still be that glimmer of hope that he can get back to those levels.

However, his injury record is well documented and therefore, the entire deal becomes a huge risk.
If a deal can be agreed on reasonable terms that take into account the player’s injury record, it may just be one that works for both parties.
Providing he goes on to stay fit, Carroll would be a useful back-up behind Joelinton and he’d give Bruce a different option in the final third, but the club must be completely certain that it’s a deal worth doing, or it could be one that comes back to bite them.
