Newcastle leading the chase to sign Maia – would his arrival see Hayden move on?

Newcastle are said to be leading the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Thiago Maia from Lille, is this going to be the signing that allows Hayden to move on?

Pianetagenoa1893.net, via Football Italia, claims that Newcastle have made a better offer than Serie A side Genoa.

The latter had been viewed as the favourites, but now the ball appears to be back in Newcastle’s court.

After a difficult spell away from the pitch, Hayden had been expected to move on from the club this summer.

However, after catching the eye during pre-season under Steve Bruce, it looks like he could be convinced into staying after all.

Hayden has never hidden his admiration for the club and his desire to move closer to home represents reasons bigger than football, nobody could begrudge him if a deal was to happen.

If Newcastle can secure a deal for Maia, he may be the replacement that the club were searching for, with Hayden’s future still up in the air.

The Brazilian is similar in terms of style of play when compared to Hayden and his potential arrival would help fill the void of a player who impressed during the tail-end of last season and over the summer.
