# Willems agrees terms with Newcastle – would he be a good signing?

Newcastle have reportedly agreed personal terms with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems – would he be a good signing?

[According to The Gazzette,](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united-agree-terms-with-defensive-target-487922) Newcastle are in talks with Frankfurt as they look to iron out a loan deal for the fullback, but personal terms have already been agreed.

The report claims that there would be an option to sign him permanently at the end of the campaign if a deal gets over the line.

Would he be a good signing for Newcastle?

It’s a tough one. Willems clearly has talent and was highly rated as a young player at PSV, but has struggled to deliver on a consistent basis for a number of years.

He has not hit more than 30 league appearances in a season since the 2014/15 campaign and found himself as the second-choice in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt.

Newcastle are in need of a left-back, though, and the signing would allow Matt Ritchie to play further forward – where he would be far more effective.

Willems would offer Newcastle a natural option at left-back, with international pedigree as well, which can only be seen as a positive for Steve Bruce going into next season.

All things considered, Willems could prove to be a shrewd addition to Newcastle’s squad.
