Steve Mounie has emerged as a potential target for a number of clubs including Newcastle, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, but is a deal that the Magpies should consider?

According to TEAMtalk, Huddersfield are ready to sell the striker this summer as they prepare for life in the Championship and Newcastle are among the teams who could hand him a Premier League lifeline.

With no manager in place, Newcastle’s transfer business will no doubt slow down in the immediate future, but that doesn’t mean the club should panic buy.

Mounie, albeit in a struggling Huddersfield side, scored just two goals last season in the Premier League. You would back any striker to score more in a Newcastle team that offers far more service, but this is perhaps a deal that the Magpies should avoid.

He was one of the bright sparks for Huddersfield last season, but Newcastle will surely feel that better options will come along as they go deeper in the summer transfer window.

Mounie may be one of the cheaper options, but he will no doubt struggle to replace Salomon Rondon’s goals next season.

Would Mounie be a good signing for Newcastle?
