West Brom are looking to agree a deal that sees Dwight Gayle join from Newcastle United and Salomon Rondon head the other way.
That’s according to the Shields Gazette, who claim the Baggies are “keen” on signing Gayle permanently this summer.
The striker scored 24 goals at the Hawthorns last season, helping West Brom reach the Championship playoffs.
New Baggies boss Slaven Bilic is reportedly keen to keep hold of Gayle, and Rondon could no play a part in that deal happening.
The Venezuelan was a prominent figure at Newcastle in 2018/19, leading the line impressively as the Magpies finished 13th in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez wants to bring in Rondon permanently, but there is still uncertainty surrounding the Spaniard’s future at St James’ Park.
Despite being a fan of Gayle, Benitez would not be against allowing him to head off to pastures new.
It is a swap deal that would seemingly benefit both clubs, although it may not be as simple as it looks on paper.
