Newcastle enjoyed a successful season as they secured a comfortable midtable finish in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez led his side to 13th in the Premier League, finishing on 45 points – 11 points clear of Cardiff, who finished 18th and were relegated back down to the Championship.
Newcastle now face a big summer as they look to keep hold of Benitez, who is out of contract, and strengthen their squad to push on and fight for top 10 next season.
But, where do they strengthen and who do they sign? One market Newcastle could look to explore is the loan route. The club could look to pinch some of the most promising young players from top clubs, or more experienced professionals who have fallen out-of-favour over the last year.
So we have compiled a list of players Newcastle could look to sign on loan to improve their squad for next season…
The Chelsea midfielder enjoyed an excellent stint on loan at Derby in the Championship and looks ready to play in the Premier League. He could add some creativity to Newcastle’s midfield options.
Newcastle have already been linked with a swoop for Wilson, who scored 18 goals on loan at Derby this season. The Liverpool winger would be a terrific signing for the Toon Army.
Right-back has been somewhat of a selection issue for Newcastle this season, with Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin both failing to nail down a consistent run of games. Newcastle could bring in James on loan from Chelsea to make the place his own.
Walker-Peters has impressed when given a chance at right-back by Spurs this season and would benefit greatly from a full season of first-team football. He would add energy and pace to Newcastle’s right-hand side.
Lamela has struggled with injuries at Tottenham over the last two seasons and need to go away and get regular minutes under his belt to return to his best. Newcastle could be the ideal place for him to go and show people what he can do.
Newcastle could look to further improve their defence this summer and adding Tomori would certainly do that. The powerful Chelsea defender was exceptional on loan to Derby in the Championship.
Tuanzebe impressed whilst on loan to Aston Villa this season and Newcastle could swoop in and look to sign him from Manchester United for the 2019/20 campaign. The composed centre-half is an England under-21 international and looks to have a very promising career ahead of him.
Mangala has had a frustrating few years at Manchester City, suffering due to both form and injuries. Newcastle could offer him the chance to revive his career in the Premier League. At 28, he should be enjoying the best days of his career.
