Newcastle United have had a really up-and-down season, with discontent between the fans and the board still prevalent and a poor start to the season not improving the mood.
A positive January window and a big upturn in form from February onwards has seen them move up the table to 15th.
They now find themselves virtually safe with four games to go on 38 points.
Rafa Benitez’s side do not have a lot to play for the rest of the season and will already be looking ahead to the summer to ready themselves for next year.
But Newcastle could potentially have a massive impact on the goings on at the top and bottom of the league in the run-in.
There is still a lot to be decided in the Premier League and the run-in promises lots of twists and turns. Here we will look at Newcastle’s remaining fixtures and predict the outcomes of each game.
Southampton have been brilliant since the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl and have moved out of the relegation zone like Newcastle.
This will no doubt be a tight game, but I fancy Newcastle to just nick this one.
Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Brighton and Hove Albion (A)
Brighton’s dire form has seen them dragged right into a relegation battle.
Cardiff beat them 2-0 in the week to move just two points behind the Seagulls with pressure piling on Chris Hughton and his players.
Brighton simply must win this game and I feel they might edge out Newcastle to ease their relegation fears.
Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Newcastle
Liverpool and Manchester City have both been magnificent this season to keep within touching distance of each other with just a couple games left.
The Reds have looked very calm in the run-in so far. A trip to St James’ Park is a potential banana skin, with City losing there earlier in the season, but I can’t see Liverpool losing this one.
Prediction: Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool
Fulham have been poor for the vast majority of this season, and their defensive frailties have proven costly as they have been relegated.
Both sides are not likely to have anything to play for on the last day, and the final game of the season is reserved for some silly scorelines.
Prediction: Fulham 2-2 Newcastle
