Newcastle United secured a big 1-0 win at Leicester City to all but cement their Premier League status for another year.
These three points take the Magpies up to 13th in the Premier League table and 10 points clear of the relegation zone with only four games to play.
The win is made all the better by the fact that Leicester had won their last four games but had limited chances to score this evening.
Salomon Rondon came the closest in the opening stages after rattling the crossbar from a long-range free-kick.
The crucial goal came after half an hour as a Matt Ritchie cross was brilliantly diverted home by Ayoze Perez.
United’s game plan was working to great effect with the side well-organised, disciplined and dangerous on the counter-attack.
Despite being put under pressure in the latter stages of the game, Newcastle held firm to claim the points.
Here’s how we rated the players:
Martin Dubravka: 7
Wasn’t tested too often but did well when required.
Javier Manquillo: 6
Risked giving away a sloppy penalty at the end but defended reasonably well.
Fabian Schar: 8
Another excellent performance which included a superb run from one end of the pitch to the other.
Jamaal Lascelles (C): 8
Was brilliant at dealing with the late Leicester pressure and seemed to head away everything that came into the box.
Paul Dummett: 7
This wasn’t Dummett’s usual position but coped well against the likes of James Maddison and Demarai Gray.
Matt Ritchie: 8
Put in the cross that resulted in the winner and was brilliant at turning defence into attack.
Ki Sung-yueng: 6
Was solid although didn’t impact the game much.
Isaac Hayden: 7
Hayden has made this position his own and contributed to some good build-up play.
Ayoze Perez: 8
The header for the goal was superb as well as some great skill to create more chances that he failed to take.
Miguel Almiron: 7
Plenty of energy, plenty of effort, but often lacked composure with the ball.
Salomon Rondon: 7
Really good centre-forward play and nearly scored one of the goals of the season after hitting the bar from a deep free-kick.
Christian Atsu (sub): N/A
Not on long enough to make an impact.
Mohamed Diame (sub): N/A
Same as Atsu.
