Newcastle United are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table, with 35 points from 31 matches.
The Magpies will be confident of avoiding relegation this season and if they do, then manager Rafa Benitez will be looking to strengthen his squad significantly in the summer.
Record signing Miguel Almiron has already become a favourite at St James’ Park, but Benitez is well known for his efficiency in the transfer market.
Here are some players that Newcastle could sign for free at the end of the season.
Giroud is one of the most underrated forwards in world football. He’s unhappy with his playing time at Chelsea and could be the ideal forward for the Magpies. If Benitez can’t secure Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis, then targeting Giroud is a no-brainer.
Darmian looks like a player who would fit in perfectly into Newcastle’s system. He would provide extra competition in the wing back area.
The Magpies are blessed with plenty of players defensively, but a player of Cahill’s quality and experience could push them to the next level. He’s frustrated with the playing time given to him at Chelsea and is looking to get his career back on track.
The Liverpool striker is merely a bench player at Anfield. He wants to rejuvenate his career and moving to Newcastle could see him do that. The only concern is that he is very injury prone.
Mata’s contract is expiring at the end of the season and he is still unsure whether he will be offered a new deal. If not, then Newcastle should do everything they can to sign him. A player of Mata’s quality could lift Newcastle and have them contending for a top-eight finish next season.
The Manchester United right-back has been struggling with injury this season and looks set to leave the club in the summer. He’s played at the highest level and could still have a few years left in him. He would be a good option at right wingback as he loves to get forward.
The Spaniard has fallen out of favour at Liverpool and looks set to leave at the end of the season. Benitez is famous for getting the best out of players, and he could certainly do that with Moreno.
