Newcastle fans have been very critical of the club in the transfer market in recent seasons, with sections of supporters not happy with the money spent in the windows.
However, despite the criticism, Newcastle have made some superb signings for relatively modest fees.
Last week, we asked you, the fans, to vote on who you think Newcastle’s best signing in the last five years has been.
Here is the top ten…
10: Gini Wijnaldum (64%)
Wijnaldum only spent a season at Newcastle, but was impressive in midfield before being sold to Liverpool for a profit.
9: Ayoze Perez (65%)
After joining the club in 2014, Perez has made over 180 appearances for Newcastle – scoring 42 goals.
8: Jonjo Shelvey (66%)
Shelvey has made over 100 league appearances since joining from Swansea in 2016 and has impressed in the midfield for the Toon Army.
7: Salomon Rondon (72%)
Signed on loan from West Brom at the start of the season, Rondon has been terrific for Newcastle this season. He has nine goals and five assists to date.
6: Florian Lejeune (73%)
The French defender joined Newcastle in 2017 and has struggled with injuries, but has always impressed when fit.
5: Miguel Almiron (74%)
Joined Newcastle in a club-record deal in January and has shown promise in his few appearances to date.
4: Fabian Schar (77%)
Joined Newcastle at the start of the season and has been a rock at the back all season for Rafa Benitez’s side. Brilliant signing.
3: Matt Ritchie (80%)
22 goals in over 100 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Bournemouth in 2016, Ritchie has been a good servant to the club.
2: Martin Dubravka (92%)
Coming in as a close second is Martin Dubravka. Initially signed on loan in January 2018, he made the move permanent last summer and has been terrific this season.
1: Jamaal Lascelles (93%)
And here you have it! Newcastle’s best signing of the past five seasons, as voted by the fans, is Jamaal Lascelles. The current Newcastle captain has made over 100 appearances for the club since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015.
