Newcastle United recorded back-to-back wins after beating Burnley 2-0 at St James’ Park.
This comes after the Magpies cruised to a 2-0 win against Huddersfield last Saturday with Rafa Benitez’s side claiming a vital six points in a matter of days.
It is also four straight home wins for United which has helped them move up to 13th in the Premier League and seven clear of the drop.
The game was scrappy for much of the 90 minutes before a piece of quality broke the deadlock.
The first goal was a screamer from centre-back Fabian Schar who fired a rocket from 25 yards into the top-right corner of the net after 25 minutes.
It was made two just under 15 minutes later when Sean Longstaff collected a loose ball in the box and fired home for his first Premier League goal.
Newcastle then controlled the second half with the visitors rarely creating a clear-cut chance.
The relegation fears seem to be ebbing away as the Magpies creep another three points into mid-table.
After another impressive display, here’s how we rated the Newcastle players:
Martin Dubravka: 8
Very commanding in the air, seemed to catch everything that came near him.
Javier Manquillo: 7
Was solid in place of Yedlin but rarely impacted the game.
Fabian Schar: 9
Scored a cracker of a goal, had fantastic distribution and was comfortable defensively. My Man of the Match.
Jamaal Lascelles (C): 8
Dealt with Burnley’s ariel presence well and helped limit Burnley’s chances.
Florian Lejeune: 8
Very good at switching the play and starting off attacks.
Matt Ritchie: 7
His deflected cross led to the second goal while not being truly tested defensively.
Isaac Hayden: 7
Broke up the play well with another impressive performance.
Sean Longstaff: 8
Was very composed to get his first Premier League goal to complete his repertoire in this run of games.
Miguel Almiron: 8
Very lively again with intelligent movement with and without the ball.
Ayoze Perez: 7
A similar case of lots of energy and persistence without the calm head in the final third.
Salomon Rondon: 8
His hold up play is superb and is a nuisance in the box, which eventually led to the second goal.
Paul Dummett (sub): N/A
Only on the pitch for 10 minutes.
Mohamed Diame (sub): N/A
Had a nasty looking injury in his short cameo after a challenge from Crouch but appeared to recover.
Joselu (sub): N/A
Not on the pitch long enough to make an impact.
