Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to go out and buy a goalkeeper after “not being convinced” by Scott Bain.

Despite the Hoops having both Craig Gordon and Bain at their disposal, it looks likely an upgrade will be brought in with Gordon in his latter years and Bain only playing six games this season under Rodgers.

With Celtic not dominating the league like in seasons past, a number of players have come under fire including the role of the former Dundee goalkeeper who joined the club on a permanent basis over the summer.

The goalkeeping issues coincides with the Chronicle reporting Rodgers is reportedly very interested in signing Southern shot-stopper Freddie Woodman, with his Newcastle future up in the air.

Speaking to the Daily Star former Celtic player Nicholas gave his thoughts on Bain and advocated for Rodgers to seek out an upgrade in between the sticks:

I would target a keeper. Craig Gordon’s days at the top are numbered and I am not convinced Scott Bain is his long-term replacement.

I would look at Freddie Woodman at Newcastle United. He has been up here at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and he has real potential.

He could also push into the England squad and add real value so now’s a good time to make a move for him.

The deal looks likely with Woodman a forgotten figure in the North East, both Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka ahead of the Englishman in the pecking order.
