Newcastle are set to make an offer to sign Milan midfielder Diego Laxalt in the coming days following their initial enquiries.
According to reports in Italy, as cited on the Express, the Magpies were keen to test the waters before making an official move for the player.
However, after learning about the player’s availability, the club are looking to step up their interest.

Laxalt caught the eye of many over the summer after impressing at the World Cup in Russia.
He earned himself a move to the San Siro but has done little to impress since moving to the club.
The player is believed to be happy at the club, but those behind the scenes may look to cash in on the Uruguayan if the opportunity presents itself.
Newcastle are in the market to strengthen out wide, with Rafa Benitez clearly unhappy with the current options in his squad.
