# Newcastle interested in Simpson

Newcastle are interested in signing Leicester defender Danny Simpson, according to [MailOnline](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6520577/Claudio-Ranieri-considering-January-bring-Leicester-defender-Danny-Simpson-Fulham.html).

The 31-year old full-back previously played for the Magpies for three years between 2010 and 2013, before leaving to join Queens Park Rangers.

Having joined Leicester in 2014, Simpson was an integral part of the Foxes’ 2015/2016 Premier League title winning season.

Now however, Simpson has fallen out of favour. With his contract set to expire next summer, Leicester are weighing up whether to move on the defender in January to recoup some cash, or whether to offer him a new deal to provide support in the absence of injured Daniel Amartey.

Fulham are also interested in the right-back’s services, as well as several Championship sides.

Rafa Benitez is believed to be in the market for full-back reinforcements, with just DeAndre Yedlin in the Magpies squad as a natural right-back. Simpson would represent likely represent a sensible addition as back-up to the United States international.
