Former Newcastle United director of football Dennis Wise claims that Mike Ashley will only sell the club to someone willing to pump money into it, Chronicle Love reports.
Wise and Ashley are close friends, with Wise believing he knows the businessman well enough to know what type of person he will look to sell the club to.
Ashley is hoping to sell the club quickly in the new year for around £300m with four separate bids having already been made – including a consortium led by Peter Kenyon.
Ashley had previously stated that he would not sell the club to anybody he didn’t believe would push money into the club and take them forward.
Wise has now backed that statement up by saying:
I think Mike Ashley will sell it if it’s the right person. I don’t think he will give it to somebody who will strip the club.
He will only hand it over to someone who is obviously going to take it in another direction and pile some money in, make it happen for Newcastle.
