Yoshinori Muto called up by Japan for AFC Asian Cup

Newcastle striker Yoshinori Muto is set to travel to the United Arab Emirates for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup with Japan.

The striker is set to miss over 4 league games whilst with Japan, and will also miss the FA Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Muto will join up with his national side after the game with Manchester United on the 2nd January, and will not return until at least the 1st February, if Japan are to win the tournament.

Ki Sung-yeung will also be at the tournament representing South Korea, meaning that Newcastle will be down two players for the entire of January.

Japan have won the cup four times, whilst Ki Sung-yeungs South Korea finished runners up in the last tournament in 2015.

Muto only has one goal so far for Newcastle, coming in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
