Newcastle will reportedly rival both Burnley and Fulham in pursuit of Bordeaux defender Maxine Poundje.
According to the Sunday Mirror, as cited on HITC, all three Premier League clubs are interested in signing the player during the January window.
Poundje has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, and specifically Newcastle in the past.
All three teams are out to strengthen defensively in the year, with the left-back position being something of a problem area for the Magpies since their return to the top flight.
The defender only recently signed a new contract with the Ligue 1 side, keeping him in France until 2021, meaning any potential suitors will have to cough up the cash to secure his services.
Benitez is likely to be once again working with limited funds at St Mary’s, with talk of a potential takeover rolling on in the background.
