Newcastle’s deal for Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron could be off due to Newcastle’s ownership situation, according to the Daily Star.
The Paraguayan midfielder has been linked with a move to Newcastle for a while, and has been touted with a switch to the Magpies this January.
The midfielder has likely played his last game for Atlanta United, who secured the MLS Cup last Sunday with victory over Portland Timbers.

However, Atlanta President Darren Eales reportedly has concerns over Newcastle’s ownership situation, which may derail any deal between the two sides.
Eales reportedly wants to make sure the situation is “right” when Almiron leaves his side, including the price and the destination.
Therefore, Eales is concerned that Atlanta’s asking price will not be met by Newcastle.
However, the Star report that Rafa Benitez being at the helm at St James Park is a big plus in the deal, and may get it across the line.
