# Newcastle linked with move to sign Ritsu Doa

Newcastle scouts have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Japanese winger Ritsu Doa.

[According to the Chronicle, as cited on Football Oranje](https://www.football-oranje.com/newcastle-united-the-latest-club-linked-with-ritsu-doan/), the Groningen winger has emerged as a potential target for the Magpies.

Newcastle are preparing for a busy January transfer window and are clearly keen to strengthen in the final third, with the club also linked with Atlanta’s Miguel Almiron.

Premier League champions Manchester City are also known to be looking at the player, which could send a dent to Newcastle’s hopes of landing him from the Eredivisie side.

Doa only joined Groningen on a permanent basis in the summer after a successful loan spell at the club.

Rafa Benitez is keen to reinforce his attack and Doa would provide competition to both Matt Ritchie and Kenedy on the wingers, with both players largely unrivalled in their positions.

Both Christian Atsu and Yoshinori Muto have been used sparingly out wide this season, with neither player managing to impress.
