Newcastle willing to break transfer record to sign Almiron

Newcastle could be willing to break their transfer record to sign Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron, according to the Mirror.

Almiron is reportedly a target for Rafa Benitez’s side, who are looking to improve their attacking options.

The Paraguayan currently plays in the MLS for Atlanta United, and has been linked with numerous sides.

However, any side wanting the attacker would have to pay up, with Atlanta demanding over £25 million for his services.

However, speaking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with West Ham, Rafa Benitez hinted that Newcastle could break their £17 million record paid for Michael Owen back in 2005.

I have no idea. We have to find the right players. Sometimes it is not about the money. Just the right players at the right time.

Almiron has been a key man for Atlanta, who face Portland in the MLS Cup final.
