Newcastle United’s insistence to put wage reduction clauses in contracts is believed to be holding up the club’s January transfer business.
According to reports, the Magpies are keeping one eye on the future in a bid to protect themselves should the worst happen at the end of the season.
Potential targets will be understandably reluctant to agree to a contract that could well look drastically different by the end of the season.

The club will be keen to add in said clauses to ensure that should the drop into the Championship, they will not become hamstrung with huge wages that could make players harder to move on.
Newcastle are among the contenders to drop into the Championship, but their recent run of form has boosted spirits around the club.
Benitez will be hoping he can once again work his magic in the transfer window, with last season’s January period a crucial time in the Magpies’ bid to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
