Stoke City left-back Erik Pieters is open to the prospect of a January switch to Newcastle United, according to a report from Chronicle Live.
The Magpies are understood to be on the lookout for a new left-sided defender, with Paul Dummett’s injury during the international break leaving Rafa Benitez with a threadbare selection in the position.
Newcastle have Javi Manquillo who can operate on the left but the Spaniard has often failed to convince. Achraf Lazaar, meanwhile, has yet to play in the Magpies’ first team this season.

It’s reported by the Chronicle that Benitez has set his sights on players ahead of the January transfer window, with Pieters among those under consideration.
The 30-year-old is stated to be open to a departure from the bet365 Stadium midway through the season, with a return to the Premier League presenting itself as an option.
Pieters has been a regular for Gary Rowett’s side this season and has made 15 appearances in the Championship.
