# Rondon ready to return against Southampton

Newcastle have loan signing Salomón Rondón back in contention for Saturday’s game against Southampton following an injury lay-off.

The Magpies have failed to win a Premier League game so far this season, having drawn two and lost seven from their opening nine fixtures in the league.

Currently routed to the bottom of the Premier League table, Rafa Benitez will be buoyed by the availability of a signing who had promised a lot in the summer.

Having signed from relegated West Brom in the summer transfer window on a season-long loan move, Rondón was considered to be Newcastle’s first-choice striking option, however his game time has been limited so far due to a thigh injury.

Talking about Rondón’s return, as quoted by the [Daily Echo](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/17010933.newcastle-have-salomon-rondon-back-for-southampton-clash/?ref=rss), Benitez said:

> If you consider that we signed him as a main striker at this time, we have missed him for games.

> When he played against Crystal Palace, he was injured from the beginning and it was a pity. But now he is fit and hopefully he can stay fit for a while and at least increase the competition between the offensive players.
