Ex-Newcastle United youngster Paul Woolston is expected to complete a surprise move to Manchester United today.
According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, United are due to confirm the player’s arrival after spending time on trial at the club.
The move for Woolston will come as a surprise having been released by Newcastle earlier in his career.
United have been keen to strengthen their goalkeeper position within their acedemy set-up and Woolston was one of a number of players on their radar.
The report claims that Woolston is likely to become the club’s third choice within the acedemy and provide competition for Matej Kovar and Alex Fojticek.
The news of his move to Manchester United will come as a blow for Newcastle, with the Premier League giants clearly seeing something in the player that the Magpies missed.
While first-team football at Old Trafford is unlikely, it is a move that would have been hard to turn down for the former Newcastle man.
