Aston Villa eye move for Benitez to replace Steve Bruce
Aston Villa’s owners want Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez to be the man that replaces Steve Bruce.
The Mirror report that the Championship side want to lure the Spaniard back down to the second tier to guide them to promotion.
Benitez’ Newcastle are yet to win a game this season, but Villa’s new owners are looking to make a high profile appointment as they look to replace Steve Bruce.
Steve Bruce was sacked on Wednesday evening after a disappointing run for his side in the League.
Villa drew 3-3 with bottom of the league Preston on Tuesday, with Glenn Whelan missing a last-minute penalty.
Things got even worse for Bruce on Tuesday when a fan tried to throw a cabbage at the former Birmingham City and Hull man.
Other names being considered for the job include former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry, who was linked with the job back in August.
John Terry is also in the frame, with the former Villa defender looking for a way into management after rejecting a move to Lokomotiv Moscow in the summer.
