Rondon facing several weeks out with thigh injury

Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon is set to face a couple of weeks on the sidelines after manager Rafa Benitez confirmed that the forward picked up a thigh injury.

As reported on BBC Sport, Rondon suffered the problem last week prior to Newcastle’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and the problem is a more serious than first considered.

The on-loan West Bromwich Albion striker has struggled to find goalscoring form since moving to St James’ Park and must now work hard on recovering as quickly as he can.

When speaking about Rondon, Benitez said:

We need to check. I think a couple of weeks, maybe.

The idea is to see how he is going on after every week.

He felt something in the warm-up (against Crystal Palace). He wanted to impress, but he couldn’t. Now, he is injured and we have to manage with the rest of the players.

The injury to Rondon could offer a chance to summer signing Yoshinori Muto to prove a point to Benitez and the Toon fans.

Muto is yet to start a Premier League match this season and may have a big role to play against Leicester tomorrow afternoon.
