# Newcastle refuse to host talks for Benitez replacement

Newcastle are refusing to entertain agents offering their clients as potential Rafa Benitez replacements in a bid to keep the Spaniard beyond the current season, according to [Mirror Online](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-give-fans-hope-rafa-13320120).

The Magpies boss is under contract until June, and with promises over transfer budgets and signings not having been kept in the past, many speculate that the former Real Madrid man Benitez will walk once his contract expires.

However, despite owner Mike Ashley being embroiled in a stand-off with Benitez, the club are said to be keen on extending his time with the Tyneside club.

With a key meeting over Benitez’ potential long-term future at the club fast approaching, Newcastle chiefs have refused to entertain any discussions over potential replacements.

Benitez is said to be considering his options, with the 58-year old only willing to commit to Newcastle if the club can make guarantees over proper investment in the playing squad, the academy and upgrades at the training ground.
