Premier League side Newcastle United are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation of Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos, who has a £54m release clause in his current contract.
As reported on HITC, the German international moved to the Portuguese side during the summer transfer window and has produced a string of eye-catching performances to cement his number one spot in goal.

Newcastle were one of 18 clubs who sent scouts to watch Vlachomidos in action for Benfica this season and the highly-rated German is tipped to become a world star in the near future.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper was part of the Stuttgart youth setup and has already kept three clean sheets in the Portuguese top flight this season.
The Magpies already have a pretty strong goalkeeping department with Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman.
Also, Newcastle don’t have the spending power to compete with other interested clubs, such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, which means the move to St James’ Park is unlikely.
The fact that the Toon are scouting such highly-rated players shows that manager Rafa Benitez knows exactly where to find top quality talent but their financial situation means that they’re way behind the rest of the competition.
