# Newcastle made Allan Saint-Maximin offer this summer

Newcastle tried and failed to sign Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin this summer, a report has revealed.

[French outlet Nice-Matin claims](https://www.nicematin.com/sport/les-raisons-du-bon-debut-de-saison-de-saint-maximin-avec-logc-nice-262203) that the Magpies were in the running with Sevilla to sign the player, with an offer being made from the Premier League side.

Saint-Maximin has been one of the standout performers in Ligue 1 so far this season, catching the eye for Patrick Viera’s side.

He is now finally beginning to live up to the potential that was expected of him when they signed the player from Monaco.

The player was expected to move on this summer, with a host of clubs, including Liverpool, linked with a move but Nice refused to sell.

Newcastle have not been shy in looking at Ligue 1 for transfer targets in recent seasons, despite mixed success, however, Saint-Maximin appears to be one that will get away.

Stanley N’Soki was another Ligue 1-based player the Magpies were interested in, but the young defender opted to sign a new deal at PSG.
