Celtic captain has revealed that he turned down the chance to join both Newcastle and Tottenham earlier in his career.
Speaking to the Daily Record, as cited on Chronicle Live, Brown looks back at a period in 2010 when the two aforementioned clubs were interested in signing him.
Former Hoops boss Tony Mowbray told the midfielder he was free to leave the club after a mid-season bust-up.
Brown was told to find a new club during the January transfer window and his time at Celtic looked like it was coming to an end.
It hit me like a hammer when he told me to find a new club. I didn’t want to leave. I enjoyed playing for Celtic and all my family were here. But now I’m being told to find myself a new club.
I had to get back on the phone and tell people I think I might be free to leave in January. Then all these offers start coming in and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Well, whatever happens happens’.
I had an offer from Newcastle. There had been also interest from Harry Redknapp at Spurs and I was waiting to find out if he was still wanting to do something. So I’m sitting there thinking if I should go or not.
Having only joined the club back in 2007, Brown’s career could have turned out very different had he made the move.

However, he remained at Celtic and has since hit legendary status at Parkhead, winning 16 domestic trophies during his time at the club.
