Tagliafico eyes Premier League switch following previous Newcastle links

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Newcastle United were reportedly pondering a late swoop to sign Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Magpies were believed to have been keen on recruiting a new left-back to provide Paul Dummett with significant competition for the 2018/19 campaign. Despite this, though, no move materialised, with Newcastle failing to recruit a left-back.

However, it seems a potential move for Tagliafico would not be out of the question in the future.

As quoted by Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo, the Argentina international discussed his plans for the future and highlighted the Premier League as a destination that intrigues him.

I will definitely stay with Ajax for this season. I’ve heard rumours of Betis, but I will stay here. I don’t know if I will have another spell in Spain, but right now I have more curiosity for the Premier League, which is the strongest league in the world. I would like to play there one day.

According to claims from the Chronicle during the summer transfer window, Tagliafico has been long-admired by Newcastle’s recruitment team, with the player having been watched over the span of 18 months.

Tagliafico remains an important player for Ajax but amid previous interest from Newcastle and fresh admiration from Real Betis, a move away from the Eredivisie could tempt him.
