Swansea City central defender Federico Fernandez is on his way to Newcastle to complete a medical with the club.

According to Sky Sports, he is heading to Newcastle to seal a move, whilst the two clubs continue talks over a £6m deal.

The report claims that the sides are yet to reach a full agreement for the defender, although talks are progressing with Swansea wanting a fee in the region of £6m.

Newcastle have been chasing a deal for Fernandez throughout the summer and now finally look set to secure his signature ahead of today’s 5pm transfer deadline.

Fernandez has been with Swansea four years, making over 100 appearances for the club in all competitions. He featured 30 times for Swansea in the Premier League last season.

He also played for Swansea in their opening Championship game of the season last weekend – a 2-1 win over Sheffield United.
