Newcastle United are considering a swoop for Argentina international Nicolas Tagliafico, according to a report from the Shields Gazette.
The left-back enjoyed a hugely impressive season in the Eredivisie as he established himself as a key player for Ajax.
His displays at club level earned him a place in Jorge Sampaoli’s 23-man squad for the World Cup this summer, but he could not prevent Argentina from exiting the tournament at the round of 16 stage.

It’s believed that the Magpies are looking to make four more additions before the window slams shut in under two weeks, with a new left-back on Rafa Benitez’s agenda.
Significant efforts are being made to help Newcastle strengthen their defensive depth this summer, and Tagliafico would provide stiff competition to Paul Dummett for the starting position at left-back.
The report from the Shields Gazette indicates that Newcastle would be able to tie a deal up for Tagliafico for only £8 million, with Fulham also believed to be in the race.
