Newcastle make loan bid for international striker

According to sources at the Express & Star, West Bromwich Albion have told Newcastle they will  need to raise a large sum of cash should they hope to sign Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon.

Rondon has a year remaining on his current contract at the Hawthorns, one which contains a £16.5 million buy out clause that the Magpies have refused to meet. Instead, Newcastle proposed a one-year loan deal but officials over at West Brom instantly declined that offer.

Rondon was a bright spark in a very dark season that saw West Brom be relegated to the Championship for the first time in eight years. Scoring seven goals and getting three assists, he proved himself as a talented, strong forward.

West Brom will be keen on keeping Rondon, 28, at the club this season with hopes of instant promotion back to the top flight.

However, the higher ups at West Brom are aware that should Newcastle produce money in the region of his buyout clause it’ll be hard to refuse as last yea’rs poor season saw the Baggies face some financial difficulties.

This summer, West Brom have already lost defensive experience in Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley and look at risk of losing Ahmed Hegazi and Scottish winger Matt Phillips too, so, should Darren Moore’s men aspire to achieve big things in the Championship next season, keeping Rondon at the club is essential.
