Despite constant reports over the weekend’s duration, it appears that there has been no approach from Newcastle for Scottish winger Matt Phillips, according to Lee Ryder of the Chronicle Live.
Reports over the weekend suggested that a deal was on the cards between Newcastle and former Premier League side West Brom, howeve,r this morning Ryder says that this is not the case.
The understanding is that the Magpies never even approached the Baggies over the Scotsman, which shuts down rumours over a potential transfer.
Since West Bromich Albion’s relegation, many top flight clubs have been linked to the 27-year-old, however, Rafa Benitez looks to be focusing on other attacking options this summer, such as Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, who was impressive in last season’s campaign.

Phillips’ still has two years remaining on his existing contract with the Baggies and definitely looks as though he’s interested in a summer exit as many believe a player of his calibre should stay in the Premier League.
Phillips last season scored two goals and racked up fourr assists in addition to that. He is currently being linked with moves to Cardiff City and Middlesbrough after the rumoured deal to join Newcastle proved to be false.

As of this moment, there is no indication as to where Phillips will end up going into next season but unless an offer in the region of £11 million comes through soon ,then it is looking likely the winger will be playing Championship football with Darren Moore’s West Brom.
