# Newcastle hoping to beat Celtic and Liverpool to promising young goalkeeper

Newcastle are hoping to beat Liverpool and Celtic to the signing of promising young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

[Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-scout-special-16-14910981) claims that the Magpies have kept close tabs on the Shamrock Rovers star, who has attracted a lot of interest recently.

Liverpool have scouted the player heavily in the past, while Celtic also offered him a trial.

Fellow Premier League rivals Brighton are also believed to have invited the player in for a trial.

Bazunu’s development has not gone unnoticed as he became the youngest player to feature domestically for Shamrock Rovers.

At the age of just 16, Bazunu is already impressing a first-team environment and is widely seen as one for the future.

The Magpies are looking to bolster their U-23 side ahead of the new season and have deals lined up for several promising youngsters.

While Bazunu is not a player that Rafa Benitez will be looking to use in the near future, it would be a huge coup if the Magpies could fend off other interest to secure a deal.
