Newcastle and Leeds battling to sign Championship striker
Newcastle and Leeds United are both interested in a deal to sign Jonathan Kodjia from Aston Villa this summer.
The Express and Star reports that the Ivorian forward is set to be moved on as one of the club’s highest earners.
Kodjia was a big-money signing from Bristol City following Villa’s relegation to the second tier.
He was signed to fire them back to the Premier League, but injuries have troubled him during his time at the club.
Both Newcastle and Leeds are looking for extra firepower this summer and there is a feeling Kodjia could be available on the cheap.
Villa’s financial worries have been well documented off the pitch as they prepare to offload some of their most valuable players.
Newcastle have been linked with moves for Alassane Plea, who looks set to join Borussia Monchengladbach and Salomon Rondon.
The West Brom striker is available for £16.5 million this summer, but Kodjia could be considered the cheaper option.
