# Stoke launch £11.5m bid for Newcastle star

Stoke City have reportedly launched a bid worth £11.5 million in their efforts to sign Matt Ritchie from Newcastle, but are still some way off the Magpies’ valuation of the player.

Ritchie has emerged as a top target for the Potters this summer, as Gary Rowett looks to take Stoke back to the Premier League at the first time of asking in his first season at the club.

The Scotland international enjoyed an involved role under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle last term but it’s understood that the club are ready to listen to offers worth £15m and upwards.

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, efforts have been made by Stoke to sign Ritchie but they will need to up their bid by £3.5m if they are to reach an agreement with Newcastle.

It’s also claimed by Downie that if Ritchie is indeed set to depart St James’ Park, a move to re-sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace will be launched by Newcastle.
