Newcastle United are putting plans in place for a deal to sign Salomon Rondon if they’re unable to secure a move for Alassane Plea.
The Northern Echo reports that the Magpies have held talks over a deal for the striker but he remains their back-up plan.
Newcastle are currently pursuing a deal for Nice forward Alassane Plea, but they may be forced to turn their attention to Rondon if they’re unable to strike a deal.

Plea impressed in Ligue 1 last season, but Newcastle will have to fight off interest from the Bundesliga and also Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham.
Rondon has a £16.5 million release clause inserted into his current West Brom deal and he is widely expected to leave the club this summer.
It is yet to be seen whether Newcastle would be willing to pay that much for the striker and could look to negotiate a cut-price deal.
There are some concerns from the Premier League side about the player’s wage demands and the overall cost of a potential deal.
