Ki Sung-yueng is in talks with Newcastle over a free transfer to the club following Swansea City’s relegation.
The Chronicle reports that talks have taken place as Rafa Benitez continues to add to his squad over the summer.
The midfielder confirmed earlier this season that he would not be extending his contract with the Swans, bringing an end to his six-year stay at the club.
At the age of 29, he would bring a wealth of experience in the Premier League and could fill the void left by Mikel Merino, who is returning to Spain after just one season in the Premier League.
Real Sociedad are keen to bring in the player back to his home country and have activated the release clause in his contract.
It has been well documented that Benitez is working on small budgets throughout the summer transfer window, so the Newcastle boss will be keen to get this deal over the line.
