Newcastle will need to stump up a club-record transfer fee if they want to recruit Hoffenheim star Andrej Kramaric this summer, according to the Chronicle.
The Croatian international has been scouted extensively by the Magpies over the course of the past season and it seems he has emerged as a summer target for Rafa Benitez.
Kramaric enjoyed a good season with Hoffenheim as he flourished under Julian Nagelsmann, helping the club to yet another strong campaign in the Bundesliga.

The versatile attacker is a key man for his side and it comes as no surprise to see them apparently place a huge asking price on his head, with the Chronicle indicating that he will not be sold for anything under £40 million.
Newcastle’s current record transfer is their acquisition of Michael Owen for £16m back in 2005, meaning they’d be breaking their existing record by more than double if they were to meet Hoffenheim’s demands.
Rafa Benitez’s funds are limited this summer, and it seems any deal for Kramaric has been thrown into doubt as a consequence of the German side’s asking price.
